December

December was a busy and fun month for all of us. At Oakley Elementary they always have a Christmas program, all of the grades participate. At the end Santa comes and gives out a white sack with an orange and a few candies to each child. The pictures that I took didn't turn out well since I didn't turn the flash on but I had to add one of Spencer because he looked so cute in his suit with sunglasses and and a santa hat :)

Here is a picture of the whole school singing Here comes Santa Claus just before he enters.

School got out on the 18th of December leaving us the rest of the month to play and celebrate. On the 19th Hailey had a dance recital. She dances ballet and is working on becoming graceful. She is doing really well.

This year I was feeling a bit ambitious and decided to sew 3 pairs of pj's for each kid. Next year I'll probably only make one pair per kid. I ended up staying up until midnight on the 19th so I could finish up...and I did. We were leaving for Utah on the 20th to visit fam.

Here is all of the kids on Christmas Eve in their PJ's

The drive down to Utah was uneventful, fortunately we realized the week before that Hailey gets car sick after she threw up in our new car. The problem is that she never tells us that she is feeling sick until after she throws up. Fortunately for me and unfortunately for my parents she threw up on their carpet as she walked in from the car. I do have a supply of Dramamine for our trip to Seattle.

Christmas was a fun and relaxing day for us. Spencer got a telescope from santa. Unfortunately it was really foggy for a couple of nights but he has finally been able to see craters on the moon.
Photobucket

Austin got a Red Ryder B-B Gun from Santa. He assures us that he won't shoot his eye out :)
Photobucket

Hailey's favorite gift was a doll that she got from Grandma Dalton.
Photobucket

Ethan isn't a morning person and I had to drag him out of bed to see what Santa brought, but at least this year he would let me take pictures.
Photobucket

Brig wanted candy before his gifts. I ended up just throwing the gum balls away because he kept dumping them everywhere.

For Christmas Austin colored a beautiful picture for me and wrote a note about what a nice mother I am to him. He is such a nice boy.

The Day After Christmas Austin turned 9! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. I feel guilty that I wasn't excited to be pregnant with Austin (it was a little bit of a surprise, when they tell you not to forget any birth control pills they mean it) I'm thankful for him and that he is a part of our family.

For Austin's birthday we went to the Asian Buffet for dinner. That is the place he picked. Just before we went there I had gone to Walmart with Ethan, Hailey, and Brig. Ethan kept climbing underneath the cart to ride. I told him not to because I didn't want him to get his fingers run over but he didn't listen and got his finger run over by the cart. I felt bad, his finger split a little on the side and bled. When we went to dinner I had to feed him because he kept holding his finger with his other hand. I'm glad his finger is okay. I know it could be worse.

Tomorrow morning we are leaving for Seattle. Trevor is getting married on Wednesday. I hope that the ride goes okay, 12 hours in a car with 5 kids might make me a little nuts.

I am so grateful for my family. I love this time of year, it has given me time to reflect on life and our savior and how truly blessed we really are.

My, My, How time flies

I haven't even posted one blog entry in November. I've been meaning to, I just haven't taken the time.

On the 11th of November our school puts on a Veterans day program. It is a really nice tribute. Every time I go I get emotional. I am so grateful for this beautiful country that we live in.

My sister Christine had surgery on her sinus and nose this month. I'm glad that it all turned out and that she is doing better. I really missed talking to her a lot and wished that I lived close enough to help her. There was one birthday a few years ago, where I felt like I had no friends in the world and I look outside and she came to visit and brought me a cake so that I wouldn't have to bake my own. I am thankful for the great friend that she is to me.

This week I had to help with the Thanksgiving Feast in Hailey's class since I am the room mom. I had to take a crock pot of chicken noodle soup. It was fun to go and help. I had enough soup left over for a few meals...lol. On Wednesday we had no water for most of the day because we are remodeling one of our bathrooms and the plumber came and we had to have it turned off. It sure makes me thankful for water! The kids got out of school at 1:30 on Wednesday and we had planned to leave to Utah (we were going to Grandma Daltons house in Tooele)from there but the plumber took a long time to finish and we didn't end up leaving until 4:30. The ride down went pretty well. Not too much fighting from the kids, however when we were just around the corner from Grandma Dalton's house Hailey threw up. She is our child that gets car sick. I told her next time that she feels car sick she needs to let us know a little bit sooner.

Thanksgiving was relaxing and fun. The food was really good and Grandma Dalton made us feel very welcome in her home. We were very thankful that we could go down and visit her.

I had considered going to some black Friday sales but I didn't want to have to try and hide things for the way back, plus I really wanted to sleep in! The ride back home was one of the most miserable that we have had. Austin was having one of his "special" moments where everything made him want to fight. At one point we pulled over and told him to start walking. No, we wouldn't have made him walk the whole way but maybe a mile would have helped him burn off some of his madness.

Before we left I sent a message to my brother on facebook. I told him that I'll never give up hope for him to change. When he gets tired of living the addict lifestyle there is always somewhere for him to go. I then sent him the link to project recovery http://www.projectrecovery.com/ I don't really think he is ready to change but I want him to know where he can go if he is ready, and that I'll never give up hope for a change.

Last week was the week where they teach the kids to stay drug free. Each day they dress up or do something crazy. I had to take their pictures for crazy hair day. They think it is so fun. If you are wondering, Spencer made himself a "wig" out of paper.

Last weekend my parents and Aunt Les came to visit. It was so fun to have them here. My parents didn't get to stay very long, but Les came to the school carnival and helped me with the kids. While we were there Austin fell and hit his head on some steps in the gym. I felt quite concerned for him because I had never seen a goose egg so big on someones head. I'm so thankful that he is okay. He has two black eyes now and a large lump on his forehead, but I know it could have been a lot worse. Aunt Les brings up Haunted houses for the kids to decorate each Halloween time, they all think it is so fun.

On Monday for family night we did our annual pumpkin carving before Halloween. This year it was kind of nice because I didn't end up carving all of them. Spencer and Austin actually carved theirs. Hailey drew what she wanted me to carve in marker.

This week Ethan had a Halloween party on Wednesday for Preschool. Grandma Jodi sewed a panda hood for him and altered Little Tyler old Karate outfit so that he could be kung fu panda. Ethan looked so adorable to me.

Today was the Halloween party for the kids. I am the room mom for Hailey's class. It was a lot of fun. The kids Halloween parade was also today. Grandma Jodi came and took care of Brig because he was sick. Originally she was going to come with me to the Halloween parade. I was so thankful to her for helping me out.

Spencer is a grim reaper, Austin is a ghost buster, and Hailey is Hannah Montana. I thought Austin would be the only ghost buster but there was another kid in his grade that was also a ghost buster. They both looked cute.

Ethan is 4

Today is Ethan's Birthday! It seems like it was just yesterday that I had him. He is so grown up now. When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he said a combine and that is all that he wanted.

Yesterday I had a doctors appointment for Austin. After the appointment we went to the store to pick up his prescription. He brought money from his allowance to buy Ethan a present. When Spencer and Hailey got home from school they also wanted to give Ethan a present. I wasn't planning to go back to the store so they both went into their rooms and found things to give him. Spencer gave Ethan a sea shell a rock and a pedometer (if you know Spencer rocks are truly a treasure to him so it is really a thoughtful gift). Haily gave Ethan a toy gun that is pink. It was a toy she picked while we were on vacation to Yellowstone. I felt happy that my kids are so nice to each other.

While we were at the pharmacy Ethan sat next to a little old lady and said loudly "hi, I'm sick." The little old lady moved to a new spot..lol....and no Ethan isn't sick.

This morning I went in and woke Ethan up so he could open his presents before the kids left for school. He didn't want to get up. He did after a few minutes though.
Photobucket

This afternoon Ethan spent riding around the farm with Tyler and he fell asleep so when I went to get him so we could sing happy birthday and Grandma Jodi could give him his present he was kind of out of it. You can tell by the first couple of pictures.

I'm so glad to have my charming little Ethan in my life. He is such a cute boy and a good brother to the rest of the kids. I know he was meant to be a part of our family.

Goodbye to Summer

I know summer ended a few weeks ago, but it was the most fun I've ever had during the summer. I really enjoyed the kids the whole time. In July we went to Yellowstone with my family. The kids were so good and we had a lot of fun hiking around and seeing all of the wild life. Then we went Downata Hot Springs with Tyler's family. I felt so proud of our kids, even Ethan was brave and went down the water slides. In August we had the Fair. Spencer won first place in Under Construction for the pillow case that he sewed and Austin won 3rd place for his. I didn't think my wheat bread or cinnamon rolls won, but I received a check in the mail a couple of weeks ago and I won 3rd place for both of them. I wish I'd gone and collected my ribbon. We also went to Lake Powell in August and the beginning of September. The kids were lucky they got to miss the second week of school. In September we went with Tyler's moms for the weekend and went to a place called Cowabunga bay. Grandma Dalton was so nice to the kids, it was a great time. It has been so fun spending time with the kids and I really wasn't ready for school to start and it has been going for over a month now.

Spencer is really growing up. He is so helpful to me, I consider him my right hand man. He helps me cook dinner and even makes brownies all by himself. He also plays the piano really well. I can tell he is growing up though because he can be a little bit moody. He still loves books and reads almost every night in bed.

Austin is starting to calm down. He still has his "special" moments but he is a nice kid for the most part. Tyler and I have been reading a book on how to parent a child with ADHD and it has really helped me know how to handle Austin a little differently. Austin really is a nice kid and can be so sweet. On Saturday I sent he and Spencer to work in the beet field for part of the day. When they came home for lunch he gave me a hug and was really nice.

Hailey is such a fun little girl. I think I've come to terms with the fact that she'll be my only girl. I'm so grateful that I have her. The other day I was driving home and she said "couldn't you try just one more time for a girl?" and I said for her to ask dad, and she said "should I ask him to have sex with you?" LOL I have given her the talk because she asked me about sex. I explained that sex isn't something you talk about. Hailey does have some characteristics of ADHD, and so I'm watching her to see how school goes this year. Hailey can't ever sit still. Even when we watch TV. I don't like to sit by her because she will be so wiggly that she will kick me in the face or poke my eye or do something to injure me. I'm hoping this is just something she will grow out of but we will see.

Ethan is my most charming little boy. He is so fun and I love having him around. Everywhere we go he tells people about Lake Powell and Cowabunga bay. It is funny when he talks about it because he always says "Yesterday we went to Lake Powell" or "Yesterday we went to Cowabunga bay." It is going to be his birthday in a couple of weeks and I asked him what he wants for his birthday and he says a combine. I asked him if he wants anything else and he just says no, I want a combine. There is a toy combine at the John Deere store that he really wants. I guess that is what I'll get him. He also started going to preschool one day a week. He thinks it is so great. I miss him while he is there. It is so quiet when it is just Brig and I.

Brig has been such a fun baby. I know he is more like a little boy now. He is wearing 2T clothes. He is starting to talk more, but when I ask him questions and the answer is yes he just nods his head.....LOL It is really adorable to see. When I think of him being my last baby I feel mixed emotions. I feel relief because kids are a lot of work, but I also feel a little sad because I love babies. Not sad enough to have another though.

I am the Room Mom this year for Hailey's class. Only a couple of other moms signed up to help me. At first I felt kind of annoyed that I didn't have more volunteers, but then I felt thankful that I am able to volunteer. I don't have to work like a lot of the other mothers in Hailey's class (although I'd like to go back to school when all of my kids are in school, and then have some kind of job). Life is good for me and I am so thankful for that.

I had this great idea of taking a picture of my kids heads in the sand like I did on the grass while we were at Lake Powell. Lets just say it didn't work out so well. Brig bawled the whole time.

First day of school and Lake Powell

Well I missed posting the kids first day of school so I'll do it now :)
School Started on August 24. Here is Hailey with her teacher Mrs. Lloyd.

Here is Austin with his teacher Mrs. Ashton.

I didn't make it to Spencer's class fast enough to get one before class started so I took one from the door way. Here is his teacher Mrs. Hawks

Our kids missed the second week of school for a vacation to Lake Powell with our friends the Gillettes. The one thing I worried about on the trip was that I didn't want any of my kids to drowned. I made them all wear their life jackets 24/7 except Spencer who passed a swimming test. We all slept on the top deck of the house boat. I worried a lot about Brig climbing out of his play pen in the night so we turned it upside down to make a cage..lol. It worked pretty well until he woke up in the night and bawled.
Photobucket
Here is a pic of all of the kids sleeping. I thought they all looked so cute.
Photobucket
All of the adults slept around the kids to keep them safe in the event that they woke up during the night.

Stacy's family was so fun. Here is a pic of her BIL Theron who made a row boat out of a log.
Photobucket

He and Stacy's brother Daniel made a "raft" out of a few logs that were around with the kids. They all thought it was great.
Photobucket
My little Ethan went from hating water to loving it. He found that with the help of his life jacket he could go anywhere.
Photobucket
He really wanted to water ski, but the boat was a little to big to pull a little boy, so our friend Zane whipped up what I call waterskiing Redneck style.
Photobucket
Ethan got a little bit tired of waiting for everything to be just right.
Photobucket
Here dad is helping him to get ready.

Here is my little 3 year old water skiing.

Photobucket
Hailey, Austin and Spencer also water skied. My friend Stacy got some good photos of it and I'll add them when I get them from her.
Spencer also wake boarded for the first time. Here he is getting ready.
Photobucket
Here is my little Spencer on a wake board.
Photobucket
I forgot to add. I also tried water skiing. I didn't quite get up. When I got close my left leg kept going back like I was doing the splits. Maybe next time. This is the first time I've ever tried so I think I did okay. I think Stacy also got pics of that...lol.
Tyler is awesome at water skiing and Wake boarding. When he would get close to the house boat when he was done he'd always do an awesome trick. I tried to capture it with my camera but I got right before and right after.

We also had a grand time building sand castles on the beach. The kids helped me build an awesome one with a moat.
Photobucket
Here is Stacy directing the building.

Here is sweet Brig just enjoying the fun.

I think this was our best family vacation ever. We have enjoyed all of the vacations that we have been on but it was the most relaxing one by far, and the best news of all is that the kids were all kept safe.
